It was funny seeing Ketan Joshi's name pop up again here: he's a deeply disingenuous commentator who mostly just looks for excuses to trash on people or ideas not in his clique. His whole exchange w/ Jordan Shanks some years back really highlighted the kind of person he is.

Can you link to the Jordan Shanks exchange? Don't really know Joshi's deal, he's just been sharing my stuff with extremely sloppy negative commentary that a high school student could poke holes in recently.

I have to admit I am not nearly invested enough in Australian politics to make it through the videos but appreciate the share

Absolutely understand, which is why I kinda held back on linking anything until you asked. It's incredibly niche and scattered which just kind of makes it a mess to dig through unless you're super into it.

Another excellent post, but... you excuse for people who believe factual lies about generative AI and the environment, and use it to attack generative AI companies or users as having been "tricked". I am not sure I agree - one should do their due diligence before going out of their way to criticise others.

There I just meant the people who believe the lies, not the ones spreading them

Strongly agree. I can't imagine why people would care so much about one small use of power and a low contributor to climate change versus causes that are magnitudes larger.

All these arguments about energy use harming the environment are based on factual inaccuracies—specifically, the claim that CO₂ is the primary force causing climate change or global warming. Back in the late 1800s, some "scientist" conducted lab tests and concluded that CO₂ is a greenhouse gas. Later, another questionable scientist, Michael Mann, argued that excessive CO₂ was driving temperatures up, introducing the infamous "hockey stick" graph.

Then, a prominent non-scientist, Al Gore, used the hockey stick graph to instill fear in the masses, pushing the idea that we need to stop burning fossil fuels to “save” the planet. After that, a young high school girl, Greta Thundberg, from some Northern European country took the stage, and people actually listened to her! Mann’s work has been thoroughly discredited. Gore bought property along the Florida coast—clearly not concerned about rising sea levels—and that girl hasn’t been heard from in a long time.

All this time, no one seemed to check whether the data on CO₂ was even valid.

There is absolutely no scientifically sound or reproducible paper—per the scientific method—and no peer-reviewed study proving that CO₂ is the primary cause of climate change or warming. None whatsoever. Not even a paper showing it raises temperatures to any significant degree.

So, all this talk about AI contributing to the destruction of our environment is pure nonsense.

I’m not against green energy sources—I use solar panels with my RV. I am, however, against government subsidies. Let the market decide. I’m also against covering acres of desert, farmland, and natural environments with solar panels, and against wind farms ruining our landscapes and killing thousands of birds—including our national bird, the Bald Eagle.

Climate change is natural. We have adapted to it—and can continue to do so—because of one critical resource: fossil fuels. Without them, we wouldn't have computers or smartphones to argue with each other over the internet. We'd be riding horse-drawn carriages, stepping in manure, and using outhouses.

So, let’s stop wasting our time and energy worrying about AI destroying the environment. And as for fears about AI taking over the world—there’s a simple solution if it ever comes to that: pull the plug.

Andy, the issue is that you've dared to question a piece of Dogma from the Cult of Doom.

Seeing everything as Horrible is what gives them their identity. ("I live in The End Times!") They have their Sacred Texts (Doomer blogs, etc.). Don't argue with crazy people - contribute to a constructive conversation with people who actually care about facts and want to make a difference. IMHO.
